Osteopathy is gentle and combines effectively with treatments such as chiropractic medicine.
Osteopathy is defined as a natural treatment that aims to restore function to the body by treating the causes of pain and imbalance.
Practitioners trained in Osteopathy have completed, in most cases, a minimum of 4 years training in addition to a preceding education in a regulated health profession such as registered massage therapy, chiropractic or physiotherapy. An osteopath relies on the quality and finesse of their palpation and works with the position, mobility and quality of the tissues to illicit specific neuromuscular feedback and release.
Over any given muscle is a layer of surrounding tissue called fascia. Fascia is like plastic wrap that surrounds a muscle but extends past the end of the muscle into the next compartment of the body. In this sense, tension in one part of the body can create a pulling on the fascia, muscle and nerves in the next compartment. This is a simplification of where osteopathy works to treat the underlying cause of pain in acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries.
Osteopathy is gentle and combines effectively with treatments such as chiropractic medicine to provide comprehensive, long-term results. IHI is pleased to offer osteopathy and chiropractic medicine as part of our integrative services.
